Inspired by love: Sharing Our Personal Challenges

Plain and simple, I tell my story because there are others in the world trapped in shame by a similar story. Shame is poison. The things I share about my experience with Faith and Sexuality and Alcoholism aren't popular and don't need to be. I don't share my story to gain popularity. I share it that others might identify and find a new path into the light for themselves. I share that my path may illuminate yours.

It is difficult to face reality - especially when it conflicts with social norms.

It is difficult to speak the truth - especially when to do so can disobeys polite conversation.

Sharing our silenced struggles provides hope and necessitates character.

I don't casually endorse the characteristics - humility, faith, courage, strength - that it takes to accept adversity and say "I have had a different experience". Particularly in a world unified by the instinct to belong.

Therefore, I am very proud of a video I found online today.

I am very proud of my sister-in-law for her willingness to publicly claim her family's experience with my niece's Tourettes. Her courage has shed light on the path for others who are presently feeling different.

When we consciously extend beyond our comfort zone to reach the secret challenges of others, we heal and we empower everyone.

Ignoring our true experiences creates shame.

Shame is poison.

Share your truth that it may illuminate someone else's challenges with the light of hope.
